Eurocentres has been shortlisted for the LEAF 2013 Refurbishment of the Year Award.
The Emirates Glass LEAF Awards honour the architects designing the buildings and solutions that are setting the benchmark for the international architectural community.
We are very proud to have made it to the shortlist of this prestigious award.
Eurocentres completes
The existing building at 70 Court Road is situated on Crown Estate land part of the Eltham Palace complex in south east London. The building, managed by English Heritage, had previously been an MOD training centre and the offices of London and Quadrant. It had been vacant for some years and was waiting for a new purpose.
Guarnieri Architects deigned and reconfirgures the interior of this building for Eurocentres, an established worldwide network of language schools.
The quality of a teaching space comes from a mix of both natural and artificial light and the acoustics of the space. A system of suspended ceiling lights and acoustic panels regulates and controls both the artificial light and acoustics; it also forms a consistent pattern with a sculptural quality that characterises the interior of the space. Different patterns and different colours of light fitting differentiate the teaching spaces from the communal areas of the school.

Marco Guarnieri wins the LEAF Young Architect of the Year Award 2012
Guarnieri Architects are pleased to announce that Marco Guarnieri has been awarded the prestigious LEAF young architect of the year award 2012. The Emirates Glass LEAF Awards honour the architects designing the buildings and solutions that are setting the benchmark for the international architectural community.
Whites Grounds completes
Whites Grounds is located in the Bermondsey conservation area, an up-and-coming part of central London close to London Bridge, where The Shard is nearing completion and White Cube Bermondsey recently opened.
The existing building is a five-storey warehouse dating back to the end of the nineteen century with a distinctive character and a traditional gable roof structure. Guarnieri Architects were engaged to extend and redesign the interior of the 200 M sq penthouse apartment, situated on the top two floors.
The main challenge was to add a new structure in this conservation area, simultaneously bringing more light into the apartment, whilst also taking advantage of the stunning views across the city. The new structure brings a bold contemporary look, using structural glass to differentiate itself from the character of the existing building. The glass enclosure is continuous and the goal post structure that holds the sliding door onto the terrace is set behind the plane of the glass, allowing the use of one type of detail only for the entire glass structure.

Guarnieri Architects' work included in New Arcadians, Emerging UK architects, a book by Lucy Bullivant, published by Merrell 2012
New Arcadians collects new evidence of the deep enthusiasm and commitment of emerging practices to devise affordable, robust solutions that respond imaginatively both to voiced wishes and unspoken desires, not only in the United Kingdom but also across the world. These practices are part of the dynamic and entrepreneurial community that exist in the United Kingdom.
Guarnieri is a pragmatist concerned with producing a close coincidence between the functional and the aesthetic. He tempers design flare with great discipline. He reduces architectural elements not for the sake of it, but to find the least arbitrary solution.
Guarnieri is good at giving his projects a deceptively simple twist that distinguishes them from the work of other architects.

Pasta by Design Launch Party
We would like to thank everybody who attended this special evening held at the B&B Italia showroom for the launch of the book Pasta by Design. 150 guests attended the event admiring what is set to be one of the most original publications of the year. All three contributors to the book, George Legendre, Stefano Graziani and Marco Guarnieri were present and greeted guests. G|A team helped setting up George Legendre's installation Pasta City unveiled at the event.
Pasta by Design, this quirky but serious publication sparked out of the collaboration between architects Marco Guarnieri and George Legendre. Marco provided the unique idea and George his deep knowledge of mathematics, his rigour and typographical skills. The book catalogues 92 pasta shapes and gives their mathematical description. The sumptuous photographs of photographer Stefano Graziani complete the book.
